13th Floor Elevators (Austin, Texas)

Anyone that knows me, knows that the Elevators are up there on my favorite list. These guys are major innovators and the creators of psychedelic rock. Using gut wrenching howls, guitar, bass, drums and an old whiskey jug with a microphone held up to it, they paved the way for many bands and even played muse to Janis Joplin. They were also major drug advocates and essentially that is what led to their demise.

There is an amazing documentary titled "You're Gonna Miss Me", named after their hit song, which follows the life and times of the schizophrenic front man Roky Erickson. It is definitely a must see.

Line up:

Vocals & Guitar: Roky Erickson
Electric Jug: Tommy Hall
Lead Guitar: Stacy Sutherland
Bass: Benny Thurman (November 1965-July 1966) | Ronnie Leatherman (July 1966-July 1967; July 1968-August 1968) | Danny Galindo (July 1967-Jan 1968) | Duke Davis (January 1968-April 1968)
Drums: John Ike Walton (November 1965-July 1967) | Danny Thomas
(July 1967-Oct 1969)
